Its low centre of gravity and Torque Vectoring Control system make it a joy to handle; all-but eliminating body roll and providing truly unparalleled corning – even when your van’s basically empty, which is no mean feat – given that most modern LCVs are optimised for a fully-loaded state.

The 125hp 2012 > 2016 Ford Transit Custom is nippy too. Its 2.2 litre Duratorque engine gives it the oomph needed to comfortably outpace competing vans like the mid-range Vito or the ubiquitous Vauxhall Vivaro.

Irrespective of whether you’ve picked four, front or rear wheel drive, you’re driving one of the most responsive and manoeuvrable vans that money can buy, and you’ve got access to the torque needed to comfortably pull a 2 tonne trailer.

But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a little room for improvement. Ford have done a relatively good job of balancing the ECU software that manages the 125hp version of the Transit Custom 2012 > 2016’s engine, but it’s worth noting that your van’s factory detuned by default.
