For many years now the Volkswagen Golf has been the family hatchback that sets the standards for all others. Roomy, comfortable, efficient and yet still offering some fun for the driver, the VW Golf has led the market virtually since being launched, and the 2017 facelift does nothing to buck the trend.
By 2017, Volkswagen was facing a stiff challenge from brands like Skoda and SEAT, and this seventh generation facelift was the response. The word ‘facelift’ may give the impression that this was just a superficial redesign, but the Golf VII 2.0 TSI GTI, while retaining the traditional Golf exterior styling upped the ante considerably in terms of interior equipment.
In simple terms, it boasts enough high-end technology for the car to be able to drive itself in traffic jams. The 2 litre TSI model comes with a multi-link rear suspension set-up that delivers clean and balanced handling, and the engine and 6 speed gearbox combine to deliver a top speed of 155mph and acceleration form 0 to 62mph in an impressive 6.4 seconds. All this, remember, in a family hatchback that boasts more than enough room for 3 passengers in the back.
While the power delivered by the Golf VII 2.0 TSI GTI may seem impressive for a family hatchback it still suffers from the issue of being artificially restrained by the software controlling the engine. The good news is that an Avon Tuning ECU remap will remove those artificial restraints and allow you to enjoy everything the car has to offer.
By delivering a customised rewrite of the software controlling the engine we’ll remove any flat spots on the torque curve to deliver consistent and clean acceleration. At the same time as running more smoothly the engine will be boosted from 230hp to 300hp, with overall torque rising from 350nm to 440nm
