The Volkswagen Golf VII GTI Performance is a part of the Mk7 generation of Golf cars and, as the name suggests, is a Performance version of the standard GTI. In practical terms, this sees the turbocharged 2.0 litre 16v inline 4 petrol engine delivering an impressive 245hp as opposed to the 227hp offered by the standard model. 

One result of this uplift in the power on offer is that acceleration from 0-62mph can now be achieved in just 6.2 seconds, with Volkswagen promising that this kind of performance is achievable with both the 6 speed manual and 7 speed automatic gearboxes on offer. With greater power comes greater responsibility to upgrade the control, and in the case of the front wheel drive Golf VII GTI Performance, this control is provided via electronic locking front differential and larger vented disc brakes.

Despite the emphasis on speed and power the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance is as practical as long-term VW drivers will expect, offering an average of 47 mpg and covering 478 miles on one 50 litre tank of fuel. 

Even with the emphasis placed on performance, this Volkswagen Golf doesn’t deliver everything it could. The software controlling the engine limits the power offered to just 245hp and the torque to 360nm.
